In the year 1947, French author and philosopher, Albert Camus published his novel ‘The Plague’. As the name suggests, the novel tells the story of a plague sweeping the French Algerian city of Oran. If ever a book coulld serve as both an introduction to Camus and be read as a parable of the pandemic it is this work. Nobody would ever confnuse Camus with E.M. Forster, but in Forster’s ‘just connect’ there is a deeply connected theme between the two authors, or at least the Camus of the Plague. A Happy Death takes place mainly in Algiers and follows a man named Patrice Meursault throughout his travels and experiences with different women.
